ATTACHING MORE STUFF

If you are new to scrapbooking, you may be overwhelmed by the
many types of embellishments. You also may not have the nerve
to try something new simply because you don’t know how easy some of
these embellishments are attached. Here is some help:
Attaching Pressed Flowers & Leaves
Beautiful. Natural. Delicate. Real pressed
flowers and leaves provide layouts with a fresh burst of color and
add the perfect textural touch for wedding, outdoor and seasonal
pages. Adhering them, however, can be tricky since they easily
flake, crack and tear. Try the following tricks to keep them
looking as good as the day they were picked.
Flip the flower (or leaf) over so its veins are facing up. Dot
liquid adhesive sparingly to the veins and heavier portions of the
flower. (HINT: Avoid bending the flower.) Press
gently onto background, using a scrap of paper to blot any excess
adhesive. (Variation --- you can also apply a light coat
of spray adhesive or a few adhesive dots. Remove the dots from
the roll before applying them to the flower. Applying the dots
directly from the roll to the flower may tear the petals or crack
the leaves.)
Attaching a Watch Crystal
Watch crystals are an ideal way to create instant shakers or to
showcase tiny photos, pre-made accents or other embellishments.
Trapping accents beneath the glass, or plastic, is a sure way to get
them noticed, as long as sloppy globs of adhesive don’t get in the
way. Here is how to keep your accent crystal clean.
Flip the crystal over with the rim facing up. Using a fine
tipped applicator or toothpick, apply a clear-drying liquid adhesive
sparingly around the rib. Press gently onto the background and
hold firmly for a few seconds. Use a toothpick or embossing
stylus to remove any excess adhesive that has oozed from the sides.
Attaching Micro Beads
There is nothing like a hint of shimmer to draw your eye to an
element. With a dusting of silver, gold or clear micro beads,
ordinary accents get an extra helping of glitz and glamour.
Discover how a little addition can make a dramatic impact.
Completely coat the top of your accent with adhesive. An
adhesive sheet, spray or double stick tape work well. (HINT:
To adhere beads to small portions of your accent, coat that area
with liquid glue and allow to dry until tacky.) Place the
accent into a shallow pan or box frame. Pour micro beads over
the accent. To coat completely, turn it face down into the pan
(now filled with excess micro beads) and press firmly. Flip it
over and press again with your fingertips (or roll over it with a
brayer) to further imbed the beads. (HINT: To seal the
beads, coat the accent with a clear-drying glaze.)
Attaching Wire
Flexible, lightweight craft wire is easy to twist, shape, string
and attach, once you know the tricks. Because they can snag
easily, you’ll want to tack wire words and formed shapes securely to
your page to prevent them from being, literally, bent out of shape.
Attach long strands by using a paper piercer to poke two small holes
into the cardstock. Push the ends of the wire through,
twisting in back to secure. To keep wire from shifting (or to
secure wire shapes), use a paper piercer to poke a tiny hole beneath
the wire. Bring a strand of fishing line -- knotted in back --
through the hole, around the wire, then back down through the same
hole. Pull tight, then repeat in several places along the
length of wire.

embellishments on display at The Crop Shop.
